Warning: There are From season 3, episode 4 spoilers ahead.From season 3, episode 4, "There And Back Again" heightens the series' horror and tension as the monsters prey on new and familiar victims. The story picks up immediately after the shocking ending of From season 3, episode 3, which saw Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno), Victor's father, Henry (Robert Joy), and the others aboard the ambulance encountering the fallen tree in the road that means they are now trapped in the Town. From's cast of characters are quickly impacted by this surprising turn of events as the ambulance drives into the Town at night in episode 4.
Meanwhile, two of From's best characters, Victor (Scott McCord) and Sarah (Avery Konrad), help each other out and grow closer to unlocking the secrets behind some of the series' greatest mysteries. While episode 4 does not directly answer any of the overarching mysteries, it moves the narrative forward with disturbing new information and grisly deaths that continue to raise the stakes. The characters are pushed further to their breaking point, especially with how the episode ends.
8 Tabitha Returns To The Town
She And Jim Reunite
After seeing the fallen tree in episode 3, episode 4 confirms that Tabitha has returned to the Town. Tabitha tries to warn the paramedics and the police officer about what they are driving into, but they do not listen to her and handcuff her inside the ambulance. They quickly realize their mistake as the paramedics try to help a seemingly unconscious woman, who turns out to be one of the monsters, and she kills the medical professionals in brutal fashion.
The Town could have greatly benefited from having two paramedics to help with the various medical crises and provided invaluable help to Kristi and Marielle (Kaelen Ohm). The police officer reaches Colony House and survives, but not before she accidentally shoots and mortally wounds a Colony House resident, Nicky (Tamara Fifield). With help from Boyd (Harold Perrineau) and her husband, Jim (Eion Bailey), Tabitha and Henry both make it inside Colony House as well.
7 "Thomas" Tells Ethan About The Ambulance
"Thomas" Continues To Call The Matthews Family
A voice on the phone, who claims to be Tabitha and Jim's deceased son, Thomas, tells Ethan (Simon Webster) about Tabitha returning in the ambulance before it arrives in the Town. This allows Ethan to know about his mother's return before it happens, which means Jim wastes no time in saving the handcuffed Tabitha when the ambulance appears. When "Thomas" called in previous episodes, he seemed more ominous, almost as if he was taunting Jim.

In this case, "Thomas" actually helped the Matthews family, with his phone call helping them survive the night. It is still unclear who or what "Thomas" actually is, but his actions are somewhat reminiscent of the Boy in White, who alternates between appearing ominous and seemingly helping those who can see him, including Ethan, Victor, Sara, and Tabitha. This further deepens the mystery behind "Thomas," his intentions, and how he factors into the town's larger supernatural forces.
6 Fatima Is Drinking Blood Now
Eating Rotten Crops Was Only The Beginning
Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) ravenously ate rotten crops in previous episodes and felt nauseous when smelling meat being cooked, suggesting that the child she is pregnant with may not be entirely human and a product of the Town's evil. Episode 4 makes eating rotten crops almost seem normal as Fatima pushes her fingers into the bullet wound in Nicky's corpse for fresh blood, and then sucks the blood from her fingertips. Fatima's unnatural cravings continue to escalate, but this time, Tillie (Deborah Grover) does not see what is happening.
Ellis (Corteon Moore) is still not aware that his wife is willingly consuming rotten crops or blood, and believes her pregnancy is progressing normally. It is only a matter of time before he discovers the upsetting truth about what Fatima is doing. However, Ellis' reaction to learning this secret will be nothing compared to whatever is growing inside of Fatima. The joy surrounding the discovery of Fatima's pregnancy is quickly souring as she strays farther away from being a source of hope and turns to increasingly disturbing sources of sustenance.
5 Victor Realizes He Has To Talk To Jasper
The Ventriloquist Dummy Is Important
Victor shows Sarah objects he kept from victims who were killed by From's monsters long ago. This leads him to talk more about Christopher (Thom Payne), a man he told Jade about in season 2, who lost his mind and became dangerous after seeing the mysterious symbol. Victor talks about how Christopher had a ventriloquist dummy named Jasper. According to Victor, he now needs to talk to Jasper to remember what happened, and to help with what is happening now.
Since Christopher's story echoes the story of Jade (David Alpay) in many ways, Jasper may help Jade finally make sense of the symbol and hallucinations he has been seeing.
In a flashback, the ventriloquist dummy is seen sitting in a chair and somehow talking to Christopher. Whatever Jasper is, he may hold vital knowledge about the Town's past that can be used to better understand the Town, how to handle its greatest dangers, and possibly even a means of escape and finding a way home. Since Christopher's story echoes the story of Jade (David Alpay) in many ways, Jasper may help Jade finally make sense of the symbol and hallucinations he has been seeing.
4 Jade Reveals His Hallucinations To Kenny And Kristi
Jade Cannot Continue On His Path Alone
As they spend the night in a hut after gathering food, Jade, Kenny, and Kristi discuss the loss of Kenny's mother, Tian-Chen (Elizabeth Moy). This conversation leads to Jade sharing the eerie hallucinations he has been seeing, including the injured man he saw drinking blood from a human skull. While Kenny and Kristi are unable to provide any answers to why Jade has been having these hallucinations, sharing with them does help Jade feel less alone, and is a reminder that he has friends who care about him.
Kenny also makes Jade feel better by sharing how much Tian-Chen cared about Jade as well. This emotional conversation is interrupted by mysterious noises coming from outside the hut, which is the same noise that Kenny and Jim heard the night they spent in one of the huts as well. Since the monsters were busy taking advantage of the ambulance's arrival in the Town, whatever Jade, Kenny, and Kristi heard may be something else entirely.
3 Elgin Is Asked For Help
His Visions Take An Intriguing Turn
Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons) has been plagued by chilling visions of a tall, skeletal woman since season 2, with the visions often occurring when he is asleep. In episode 4, he sees the woman inside Colony House, and as she walks into another room. Elgin follows her, but instead of the woman seeming menacing this time, she desperately asks for Elgin to help her, before he bumps into a Colony House resident passing by him, and the vision ends.

From season 3's premiere has people wondering who the ghost lady that Elgin sees and what her presence means for the show's larger narrative.
Instead of trying to haunt or hurt Elgin, she may have been trying to communicate with and receive his help all along. Then again, the Town knows how to manipulate its residents, and the compassionate Elgin believing he needs to help would be the ideal way to manipulate him. This storyline has been building for a while, but this latest vision may motivate Elgin to take more action and uncover who the woman is, why only he sees her, and how he may be able to help her.
2 Boyd Lets The Monsters Have Randall
He Is The Sacrifice The Town Demanded
Just as the monsters enjoyed tormenting Boyd by making him watch Tian-Chen die in From season 3, episode 1, the monsters enjoy tormenting Boyd again by forcing him to make a gut-wrenching choice. Boyd chooses to let the monsters have Randall (A.J. Simmons) so he can drive the ambulance toward Colony House and save Tabitha, Jim, and Henry. While Randall has been selfish and caused problems in the past, he has made a noticeable effort to be a better person in season 3.
Boyd is still haunted by the decision he made, and how easy it was for him to leave Randall behind.
This makes it all the worse to see Boyd essentially sacrificing Randall to the monsters, especially when Randall was only out there because he was trying to help. It is a relief to have Tabitha back and for her and Jim to be reunited, but Boyd is still haunted by the decision he made, and how easy it was for him to leave Randall behind. Once again, the monsters gain more pleasure from putting Boyd in an impossible situation than they would by killing him.
1 Randall Is Alive, But Grievously Injured
The Town's Torment Never Ends
The end of the episode reveals that the monsters did not kill Randall after Boyd left him, as he opens his eyes and coughs up blood before the credits begin to roll. Randall is alive, but he has been severely maimed by the monsters, as seen by the shots of his bloodied body splayed across the front of the ambulance. With Kristi outside of Town, Marielle will have to be the one to attend to Randall's wounds and to see if he can survive the torture that the monsters put Randall through.
It remains to be seen why the monsters chose to leave Randall alive instead of killing him when they had the chance, although they likely did it to further antagonize Boyd. As for what happened when the monsters had Randall, it is possible that they did more than just physically hurt him, and that this is also why they have returned him. Randall was already possessed in season 2 and began seeing the cicadas again in season 3. Randall's story proves how some fates can be worse than death in the twisted world of From.
